YOUR NANNA PASSES AWAY TODAY

You, me and Bubby went to see her at her bedside the day before yesterday. you knew it would probably be the last time you would see her.
It was difficult for us to see her in such a state. She lied motionless, struggling to open her eyes or to respond to questions. Her discomfort was apparent.

We stayed for about an hour. She was asleep when we left.

Today, I told you the news after picking you up from after school. We went stright to the pizza place where Bubby works and shared some hugs with him. You wanted him to spend the night tonight.

Your Nanna loved you. I am grateful we have pictures and video of many times you two shared. They are now here to help preserve our memories.

HORSES, INJURIES AND CLARIFICATION

Yesterday at horse lessons the girl behind you got kicked by another horse that bucked. Her leg got broke from the kick.
I came to pick you up after the trail ride and you were visibly upset. The girl finally came out of the trail 10 minutes after the rest being led. When they got her off the horse her pant leg was soaked in blood. You were standing right there watching her. You were very concerned for her.
Even 30 minutes later after we had left you were fighting back tears. Seeing her screaming in pain effected you heavily.
I tried to reassure you that the girl would be fine. She would not be in pain by the end of the day after she took some medicine and had the cast on.
Then of course you were concerned about the horse too. I couldn't figure out why at first. The horse wasn't hurt.
You told me that whenever a horse broke a leg it had to be put down.
I tried not to laugh as I explained that a horse is put down when it breaks its own leg, not when it breaks a person's leg.
I'm not sure you believed me though.

Kaylee Arrives

Aspen,
Today you became a big sister. Pretty much at the same time in your life that Ed was when you were born. Eight and a half.
This will be the first time I will get to see you in a mentoring position. May you always show her the love and compassion and consideration that you have learned to show all your friends in life. You are simply wonderful with animals. Your concern and care for them is mind blowing. I am always proud of you when I see how much interest you have in the well being of others.
Remember the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.
Enjoy being a big sister. You will make us all proud in your new roll in life. I have no doubts.

WE ARE FAMILY

Last night Bubby stayed over. After you got tucked into bed he read to you from 'Cry for the Unicorn', a book you ppicked out for me to read but when you realized that Bubby might read to you, you jumped at the chance to ask. I know you miss him and wish you two were able to be together more often. You do cry for him about every twice a month. After you were asleep he and I had a long talk about your mother's absence and how much he misses seeing you everyday too.
This morning you took advantage of his having just gotten his driver's license. You asked him to drive you to school which he was happy to do.
Tomorrow you test for your yellow stripe belt.
Good Luck!

PRECIOUS

This week you learned that Precious, your pet hamster, passed away. David didn't have the heart to tell you that he had died so he told you that bubby had taken him to his school to live with another hamster. You began to get very mad with bubby for taking your pet without asking you. I didn't want you to be mad at Ed for something he didn't do so I told you the truth. You cried quite a bit as we arrived at your girlscout meeting. I let you sit in my lap until you were feeling better and joined your friends.
It was the first time you had deal with the death of a pet.
